With second baseman Matt McLain leading the charge, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-4, at Chase Field. McLain, who is tied for 10th in the NL in total bases with 82, was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winning pitcher was Roansy Contreras. He's now 2-2. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits for the Reds. The 4th-place Reds raised their record to 20-24.
It could have been a different outcome for Cincinnati, had it not been for Jesus Sanchez, the 26-year old right fielder . Sanchez contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Cincinnati up, 4-2.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Sanchez.
