Pirates Score Late, Clip Giants, 2-1
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants rewarded fans hoping for a nail-biter.
The San Francisco Giants got a sterling performance from pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn, but the Pittsburgh Pirates still prevailed, 2-1. Zeferjahn threw 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball. The second-place Pirates improved to 21-19.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the 11th for Pittsburgh. That's when Endy Rodriguez hit a run-scoring double off 29-year old right-handed pitcher Camilo Doval to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
Rodriguez called the triumph "a good team win."
