Atlanta pitcher Max Fried gave the Red Sox all they could handle, but in the end, Boston left Truist Park with a win, 1-0. Fried allowed no runs on 2 hits over 5.2 innings. Boston reliever Kenley Jansen picked up the win to move to 3-0. Luis Soto suffered the loss. Josh Hader earned save number 6 this season.

The outcome might have been different for Boston, had it not been for Triston Casas, the 24-year old first baseman . Casas stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Boston up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Casas said after the game.

The last-place Red Sox raised their record to 17-20.
