Cardinals Keep Streak Alive with Late Rally
|
The St. Louis Cardinals stopped the New York Mets, 7-6, at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals got a big game from Lars Nootbaar, who was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. St. Louis reliever Trevor Megill picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Adam Ottavino shouldered the loss. The losing streak for New York has now reached 6 games.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Richie Palacios came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing New York pitcher Shawn Armstrong, he hit a 1-2 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Louis on top, 7-6.
"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said St. Louis manager David Mendel.
