Seattle Wins, 5-4, Over Astros
|
The Seattle Mariners took Houston pitcher Framber Valdez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Minute Maid Park. The final score had Seattle getting past the Astros, 5-4. Valdez went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 4. Seattle reliever Gabe Speier picked up the win, upping his record to 10-5. J.P. France took the loss. The Mariners, at 82-68, lead by one game in their division.
Julio Rodriguez dealt the Astros a blow in the top of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and Seattle leading 1-0, Rodriguez, who won the Most Valuable Player Award in 2024, hit a 2-0 curveball for a run-scoring single.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Houston manager Joe Girardi.
