Conditions were not ideal but Houston and Detroit were able to put their game in the books.

Houston Astros pitcher Erik Hamilton was in fine form, leading his team past the Detroit Tigers, 3-0. Hamilton yielded no runs over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 3-1. Sam Miles got the save, the 3rd for him this season.

Glen Foote came through for Houston when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a two-strike fastball to right field, staking his team to a 1-0 lead.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Detroit skipper J.D. Orr, "and it cost us."

The win brings the Astros to 10-8, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
