Myrtle Beach's Quiroga Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Myrtle Beach's 5-2 victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks, third baseman Mario Quiroga told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Carolina League-level is really something special."
The 25-year-old player earned his accolades at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Blue Rocks.
"His swing is getting there," said Pelicans skipper Jose Lopez, who spoke glowingly of Quiroga after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Mario did that to perfection."
Mario Quiroga hit a solo-shot off Jorge Valtierra in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run triple in the 7th and struck out in the 9th.
So far this season, Quiroga has hit .351 with 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 10 times.
