|
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mario Cantu was all business, helping his team muzzle the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-0. The winning pitcher was Cantu, now 1-0. He tossed 5.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. Marc McPartland closed it out for his 1st save.
The Brewers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Reds going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 32-year old catcher Mike Belanger came to the plate. Belanger hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Milwaukee hurler Kory Woods. It was Belanger's 2nd home run of the year.
In postgame comments to the Cincinnati News, Belanger said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
With the win, Cincinnati boosts its record to 3-1.
