Astros Lose at Home, 3-1, to Detroit
|
The Detroit Tigers had to overcome a good performance from Houston pitcher Rodrigo Guevara to claim a 3-1 win at Minute Maid Park. Guevara went 9 innings and allowed 3 runs. The winning pitcher was Mike Evans. He tossed 89 pitches over 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The save went to Marco Contreras, his 24th this season.
Detroit used the bat of Tim Cunningham to capture the win. The right fielder jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Cunningham.
At 72-70, the Tigers claim 4th place in the American League Central Division.
