The Kansas City Royals got a sterling performance from pitcher Nate Chase, but the Boston Red Sox still prevailed, 4-3. Chase threw 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs. Nate Giordano earned the save for Boston, his 10th of the year. By defeating Kansas City, the 4th-place Red Sox improved to 66-71.

The most important at-bat for Boston came in the top of the ninth inning, when catcher Jesus Ramirez stroked a 1-0 sinker to center for a run-scoring single, putting Boston up, 4-3.

"It was a good effort all around," said Ramirez.
