New York first baseman Eric Johansson had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Johansson was 5-6 with a double and 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, even as Tampa Bay beat the Yankees, 6-5, in 11 innings. With the win, Tampa Bay has a record of 63-68. New York falls to 60-72.

Steve Grubaugh was 1 for 4 with a double and a walk for Tampa Bay. With one out and the game tied in the top of the 11th inning, Grubaugh, who is the 4th-best prospect in the Rays organization, had a clutch at-bat. Facing New York hurler Melvin Polanco, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rays a 6-5 lead.

"It never gets old," said Grubaugh. "Winning, that is."
