San Francisco Hands Cincinnati 5-3 Defeat
|
Starting pitcher Juan Carmona pitched well enough to help the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds, 5-3. Carmona, now 7-11, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. The third-place Giants improved to 55-56.
Greg Miltimore had a big 2-run triple for the Giants in the top of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Robby Figueroa and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 3-0.
"We were the better team," crowed Carmona.
