The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at Great American Ball Park, taking down the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3. Starting pitcher John Wakeley was a big reason why. Wakeley, now 12-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Earning his 33rd save for Chicago was Sam Haas.

It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Mike Petta, the 23-year old catcher . Petta contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Chicago up, 4-0.

"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Chicago manager Vasili Spanos.

The Cubs now own a record of 67-40.
