Tropicana Field was the site of an exciting ballgame between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.

The New York Yankees had to overcome a fine effort from Tampa Bay pitcher Gabe Kelly to win, 4-3, at Tropicana Field. Kelly went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs. The winner was Juan Gonzales in relief. His record improves to 5-5. Jeff Vaughan took the loss.

New York used the clutch hitting of Josh Tillman to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said New York manager Harry Jacoby. "It's usually not just one thing."

By defeating Tampa Bay, the 4th-place Yankees improved to 46-55.
