Rockies Clip Reds, 4-3
|
The Cincinnati Reds could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Robby Figueroa into a win. Instead, the Colorado Rockies prevailed, 4-3. Figueroa threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. Picking up the save was 40-year old right-handed pitcher Daniel Finney. The Rockies lead the National League West Division by 3 games.
Colorado used a clutch hit from Ben Sawyer to get the win. The third baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rockies ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Cincinnati manager said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
