Philadelphia Topples Washington, 8-0
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Philadelphia and Washington from playing their scheduled game.
Pitcher Tim Newman was sensational for the Philadelphia Phillies in his team's 8-0 triumph over the Washington Nationals. Newman earned the win. Newman, the winner, moves to 8-6. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. Getting the save was Victor Tamayo, his 4th.
Josh Anderson had a big 2-run triple for the Phillies in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Philadelphia leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Robby Yarborough, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2041 draft, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phillies ahead, 4-0.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Newman.
The loss makes Washington 48-43.
