The Boston Red Sox picked up a win at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, taking down the Baltimore Orioles, 4-3. Starting pitcher Dan Girard was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Girard, now 7-6. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 3. Billy Cash earned the save, his 20th.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Jerrod Schmidt came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Baltimore pitcher Arturo Mendoza, he hit a 2-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boston on top, 1-0.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Boston manager Mike T. Red Sox. "It's usually not just one thing."

Boston goes to 39-37. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.
