Rockies Take 2-1 Lead with 5-1 Win
The Colorado Rockies moved to within one game of the League Championship Series, downing the St. Louis Cardinals on the road at Busch Stadium by a score of 5-1. Rockies right-hander Jeff Lawther had a strong outing. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 1 run. The win gives the Rockies a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Division Series.

Erik LaPoint dealt the Cardinals a blow in the top of the fourth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Colorado leading 1-0, LaPoint, who finished 5th in the NL in runs with 110 in 2038, hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring double.

Said losing manager Mat Batts: "Give the Rockies credit. They played a better game than we did."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
