Travelers Win Round 1
|
The Round 1 went the distance before it all was said and done.
The Arkansas Travelers and the Springfield Cardinals went at it tooth-and-nail and when it was over at Dickey-Stephens Park, the winner was the Travelers.
They put away Springfield 3-2 to cinch the series and won the right to move onto the Round 2.
For his fine play, even in a losing effort, Springfield right fielder Ed McIntyre was given the series Most Valuable Player Award. He hit .500, scored 5 runs and batted in 4 to win the honor.
"It's nice that someone noticed my numbers, but I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a win," he said.
The Arkansas Travelers will play against the Corpus Christi Hooks in the next round. Corpus Christi won their series against the Frisco RoughRiders 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
