Cincinnati Loss Takes Shine Off Maki Performance
|
Cincinnati center fielder Bobby Maki was sensational. He slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Milwaukee beat the Reds, 9-4. Kevin Calvillo, who finished 5th in the NL in innings pitched with 209.0 in 2043, was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Milwaukee, now 31-34, holds down third place in the National League Central Division.
Milwaukee used the clutch hitting of Joe Rautio to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Brewers the lead, 4-2. For the game, Rautio had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Rautio. "And not try to do too much."
