Cubs Win at Washington, 8-1
|
Chicago Cubs starter Edwardo Navarro had all his pitches working at Nationals Park. His stellar performance paved the way for an easy 8-1 Chicago win over the Washington Nationals. Navarro, now 3-4, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The victory gives the Cubs a record of 31-22.
Kevin Cooper, the two-time Great Glove Award winner , had a direct impact on the outcome. Cooper contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put Chicago up, 4-1.
Said losing manager Mike Bell: "Give the Cubs credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."
