Blue Jays Defeat Rays, 2-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays banked on Mike Doyne and he turned in a masterful performance. The right-hander kept the Tampa Bay hitters in check. The final score was 2-1, Blue Jays, in 13 innings. The win went to B.J. Villarreal in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Joe Martin took the loss. Mario Ortega closed it out for his 2nd save.
Toronto used the clutch hitting of Greg Sanchez to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a big one.
In postgame comments, Sanchez said he was glad to contribute to an exciting win.
The Blue Jays go to 15-24, putting them last in the American League East Division.
