Smith Goes Cycling
|
It was a special day for David Smith at McCormick Field. Not only did Smith's Hickory Crawdads beat the Asheville Tourists, 13-4, but the center fielder hit for the cycle along the way.
The 23-year-old Smith racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name in the record books. For the game, he went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI and 4 runs scored.
"He hit everything we threw," said Tourists manager Marcelo Martinez. "There was just no getting him out today."
Speaking to the press after the game, Smith said his goal for the day had been to look for "first pitch fastballs."
"I got some good looks today," he said.
David Smith grounded out in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Tony Light in the 4th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
Thus far this year, Smith has hit .365 with 9 home runs and 49 RBIs.
