Cantu Socks It to Shorebirds, Cracks 5 Hits
|
Today at L.P. Frans Stadium, Nelson Cantu put on an impressive display.
The Hickory Crawdads center fielder tagged Delmarva pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Delmarva Shorebirds by the score of 8-2.
"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Cantu said. "5-for-5 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, the Crawdads manager was unwilling to offer the center fielder much praise, saying the "whole roster" is held accountable for losses.
"Nelson told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager Anthony Defabbia said.
Nelson Cantu singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Chris Gibbons in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Posting a .314 batting average to date, Cantu has 7 home runs and 37 RBIs.
