Monarchs Hurler Marsh Tosses Masterpiece
The Mahoning Valley Monarchs did little to support starter Alec Marsh against the Vermont Lake Bums, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Bums, striking out 12 and surrendering 2 hits. The performance from Marsh allowed Mahoning Valley to escape with the 3-0 win despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said 'Alec, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Marsh told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."

This season Marsh has a 8-9 mark in 24 starts with a 2.76 ERA. He has given up 137 hits in 166.1 innings, struck out 175 and issued 32 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .224 batting average against him.
