St. Louis met Kansas City in a late-season showdown.
The St. Louis Flyers got a good effort from starter Yusei Kikuchi in defeating the Kansas City Monarchs at Nathaniel Lyon Ravine. The final score was 5-2. Kikuchi, now 5-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Zack Britton was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 42 of 44 save opportunities.
St. Louis catcher Shogo Sakakura contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball into right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 6th hit of the season and put the Flyers ahead, 3-2.
"It was a good effort all around," said Sakakura.
St. Louis has now won 6 games in a row.
