Keystones Win at Pittsburgh, 3-1
|
The Philadelphia Keystones picked up a win at Allegheny-Monogahela Rivers Stadium, courtesy of Zack Wheeler. The right-hander helped his team stop the Pittsburgh Crawfords, 3-1. Wheeler, the winner, moves to 9-2. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. Clay Holmes finished the game for Philadelphia and earned his 7th save.
The Crawfords had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Keystones going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the top prospect James Wood came to the plate. Wood hit a solo home run on a full count fastball from Pittsburgh hurler Gerrit Cole. It was Wood's 5th home run of the year.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Wheeler said.
Pittsburgh now owns a losing streak of 5 games.
