Flyers Turn Back Washington, 3-1
|
St. Louis pitcher Max Fried did his part in helping his team beat the Washington Senators, 3-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Fried got the win, improving to 9-7. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Fried allowed no runs. The win gives St. Louis a season record of 56-42.
In the top of the ninth, Ed Delahanty stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Senators were trailing 3-1, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Zack Britton made a terrific pitch and Delahanty grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Washington comeback.
