Stevedores Need Extra Innings to Top Senators, 3-2
|
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Senators Ballpark.
Washington got a big-time effort from pitcher Jack Flaherty, but it wasn't enough to keep the Cleveland Stevedores from winning the game, 3-2. Flaherty threw 9.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Cleveland reliever Takeru Imamura got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Toshiya Okada was tagged with the loss.
Christian Yelich, the three-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Yelich contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Cleveland up, 2-0.
Yelich called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
Cleveland raised its record to 51-37 with the win.
