The rookie looked like he belonged out there.

The Kansas City Monarchs sent 24-year-old right-hander Shane Bieber to the mound today for a high-pressure playoff start and he repaid their confidence, quieting the Boston Bees on a day where the Monarchs struggled to produce runs of their own. In the end, Kansas City cobbled together enough to take the 1-0 decision. The win gave Kansas City a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Bieber, who was born in Orange, California, threw 105 pitches over 7 innings, while allowing no runs.

"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Bieber said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Monarchs Ballpark in Kansas City.
