Gutierrez on a Tear, Hits for Cycle Sunday, September 4th , 2039 Getting 5 hits in a game is no easy feat, but doing it to hit for the cycle is even more rare. Manny Gutierrez of the New York N (DSL) Mets 2 pulled it off at Baseball City Complex, going 5-for-6 against the Chicago N (DSL) Cubs 1. His batting escapades sparked the Mets 2 to a win, 7-5. Gutierrez tallied 3 runs and drove in 1 during the game. Hitting for the cycle is particularly rare because of the different skills required - enough power for a home run, enough speed for a triple and enough patience at the plate to see at least four hittable balls. "It just happened," Gutierrez said to reporters after the win. "Must have been fate or something, I wasn't expecting it. Heck, I wasn't even really trying for it." Manny Gutierrez hit a solo-shot off Alex Montilla in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th and doubled in the 11th.
