Rowdy Players Suspended by League Sunday, July 24th , 2039 Yesterday at Dell Diamond Dante Pelaez and Max Wilkerson got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Albuquerque Isotopes and Round Rock Express. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Pelaez will have to sit out 4 while Wilkerson would be given a 9-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. A look at his current stats shows Pelaez with a .272 average, 2 home runs, 19 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has played in 46 games. So far this season, Wilkerson has 1 save in 23 relief appearances with a 5-3 record and 5.21 ERA. |
