Braves Absorb 11-7 Loss at Citi Field
|
The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves, 11-7, at Citi Field. New York left fielder Victor Esparza had a superb performance. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The win was credited to 37-year old right-handed pitcher Julio Bahamonde in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Aidan Major took the loss. Earning his 1st save of the year was Taylor Quigley.
Jayden Atkins had a big 3-run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the fourth inning. With New York trailing 5-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a changeup from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Aidan Major and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 6-5.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Mets manager Chris Mets. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
New York, now 7-12, is off to a slow start.
