Baysox Pitching Ravaged by Rivero
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 6-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Jon Rivero, it came around today.
The 23-year-old catcher scattered hits all over NYSEG Stadium to pace the 4-3 Binghamton Rumble Ponies victory over the Bowie Baysox.
Bowie skipper Brandon Marsh told reporters in the press room that "Rivero deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Rivero hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Jon Rivero singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 12th.
For the season, Rivero has produced 52 hits in 173 at-bats for a .301 average with no home runs and gotten on base at a .376 clip.
