New Hampshire Blanks Binghamton, 2-0
|
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats shut out the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 2-0, behind the strong pitching of Oscar Cerpa. Cerpa surrendered only 7 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 3.
Following the last out, Cerpa appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Binghamton manager Alan Phillips, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Cerpa's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Rumble Ponies skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Fisher Cats press conference, Cerpa confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Cerpa said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," New Hampshire manager Yohan Pino added.
This season, Cerpa has recorded no saves with a 3-4 record. He's made 4 relief appearances, tossed 88.1 innings while fanning 57 with a 4.38 ERA.
