Chicago Cubs starter Chris Schaefer pitched a strong game against the Detroit Tigers at Wrigley Field, leading the Cubs to victory, 3-1. Jeff Lehman notched his 42nd save of the season. With the win, Chicago upped its record to 81-77.

The Cubs got a big at-bat from right fielder Chris Reese. For the game, Reese was 1 for 2 with a double. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 36th double of the season gave Chicago a 2-1 lead.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Detroit skipper Kyle F, "and it cost us."
