Twins Stay Hot, Beat Guardians, 5-2
|
Minnesota Twins starter Jim Rasmussen hurled his team past the Cleveland Guardians, 5-2. Rasmussen, the winner, moves to 8-11. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. Joe Lozano recorded the save, making him 9 for 11.
Derek Rife had a big 3-run home run for the Twins in the bottom of the first inning. With Minnesota leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from 32-year old left-handed pitcher Juan Galindo and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Twins on top, 4-0.
"Jim mixed and matched," said Minnesota manager Leonard G.
The second-place Twins have won 5 straight games.
