Pittsburgh Gets 5-4 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates withstood an impressive performance by Milwaukee shortstop Gil Ortega to defeat the Brewers, 5-4, at American Family Field. Ortega was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jesus Perlta, the winner, is now 9-5. He struck out 9 and walked 1 over 6 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. The last-place Pirates now have a record of 68-85.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Wayne Jackson? The Pittsburgh first baseman had a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pirates on top, 5-4. For the game, Jackson had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We were the better team," crowed Jackson.
