Holguin Impresses in New York Loss
The Las Vegas Vipers overcame a pretty good performance by New York third baseman Jose Holguin, beating the Yankees, 12-7, at Prizepicks Park. Holguin was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Jaime Paschall, now 5-0, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 1. Las Vegas goes to 80-54. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.

The Yankees had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Vipers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 35-year old shortstop Danny Mello came to the plate. Mello hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 sinker from New York hurler Manny Simpson. It was Mello's 18th double of the year.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Mello.
