Mariners Run Win Streak to 6
|
The Seattle Mariners knocked off the Detroit Tigers, 9-6, in American League action at Comerica Park. Seattle first baseman and New Orleans, Louisiana, native Chris Aldridge had an outstanding performance. The winning pitcher was former first round draft pick Franklin Aviles. He tossed 100 pitches over 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. Tony Ocana was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 3 save opportunities.
Seattle second baseman Juan Castro contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 117th hit of the season and put the Mariners ahead, 6-4.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Aldridge.
The winning streak has now reached 6 games for the Mariners.
