Boston pitcher Alfredo Cheno had a large part in his team subduing the New York Yankees, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The win makes Boston 58-71.

Josh Gray had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the second inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Cordova and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 3-0.

"When I go out there," said Cheno, "the last thing I want to do is let my teammates down."
