Kansas City center fielder Cesar Contreras was sensational. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cincinnati beat the Royals, 5-4. Steve Riggs picked up the save for Cincinnati, his 24th of the year. After today's action, Cincinnati sits at 72-49; Kansas City slips to 61-60.

Cincinnati used a timely hit from Joey Podolsky to get the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reds ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Cincinnati manager Matt The 3rd.
