Fireflies Advance to Round 2
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at New Fredericksburg Ballpark as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.

It was the Columbia Fireflies feeling the thrill of victory, with a 2-1 win over the Fredericksburg Nationals, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Fredericksburg manager Rafi Gonell. "Congratulations to Columbia, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was center fielder Tony Herrera, who was named MVP. He hit .310 with a .355 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 5 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Columbia Fireflies will play against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in the next round. Fayetteville had a bye in the Round 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
